To register an Optimist, send your blue and white measurement booklet (which should have come with the boat) to the ISA offices, together with the €12 fee, and ensuring that you have completed the middle section by entering your child’s name and address.
The Optimist is one of the boats recommended by the I.S.A. Courses normally run in modules of 3 weeks and most children will pass Levels 1 and 2 (the basics of sailing) after one or two three week courses.

We had a Topper, a Laser, a Canoe, several optimists (one sailed by the Sailing Secretary!), Rescue II and one (very) big catamaran all on the water at the same time for a triangle-sausage course with some difficult tasks to be completed to (like swimming around your boat).
A great proportion of the fleet were towed in by team boats, rescue boats and committee boats, but the race served to set the tone for the rest of the week.
