Option - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most often the term "option" refers to a type of derivative which gives the holder of the option the right but not the obligation to purchase (a "call option") or sell (a "put option") a specified amount of a security within a specified time span.
European options and American options on stock and bonds are usually considered to be "plain vanilla." Asian options, lookback options, barrier options are often considered to be exotic, especially if the underlying instrument is more complex than simple equity or debt.
Employee stock options are also widely used as a compensation vehicle for employees and, in particular, senior executives of publicy traded corporations.

Option offense - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The basic concept of the option is to have a player, typically the quarterback, run with the ball while observing the actions of one or more specific defenders.
The option style of play is most frequently practiced in Canadian football and non-professional divisions, such as NCAA Division I and high school football.
However, the option offense is rarely used in the National Football League because defensive players are generally much faster to react and counteract these type of plays and because the quarterback is frequently hit while running the option and few professional teams are willing to risk their multi-million-dollar quarterback in that fashion.

ESPN.com: NCF - Football 101: Option football   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Option football is unique because this scheme leaves defensive players unblocked at the line of scrimmage and relies on the quarterback to make split-second decisions while the football is in his hands.
Option offenses can either predetermine who will carry the football or call double- or triple-option plays, relying on the quarterback to make decisions based on how the defense reacts to him.
Option football run at high level of execution is without a doubt the most difficult thing to defend in college football.

 Basketball Offense triangle: Triangle-corner option
Now the triangle offense is established on the right side with 5 in the high-post area, 1 in the corner, and 2 who is the trigger man with the ball - what he does next with the ball will dictate the appropriate offensive movement.
If 1 is having difficulty passing to the wing, he has this option to dribble to either side to begin the offensive movement.
The corner option then is where 2 passes to 1, 5 then steps up to set a screen on 2's defender, and 2 v-cuts off of 5's screen looking for the pass from 1 for a layup.

But ESPN, in their College Football Encyclopedia, presents a different theory: the option exposes the QB to serious injury and can't be sustained.
