A bid to block Carlton's move away from Optus Oval appears over after the Victorian Supreme Court struck down a campaign to hold a members' vote on the issue.
The Save Optus Oval group had sought to force an extraordinary general meeting to vote on the proposal, having gathered a petition to force the meeting.
However the club did not act upon the petition, claiming its presentation was invalid, with some signatures on pages not attached to the one detailing the cause of the petition.

Australian Stadiums :: Optus on the agenda until 2006
Optus Oval will remain an AFL venue until at least 2006 regardless of whether Carlton decides to shift from the last remaining suburban ground next year.
AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou has confirmed the league will need Optus Oval to stage matches in 2006, due to the MCG being unavailable in the early weeks of that season due to the Commonwealth Games.
But whenever the end does come for Optus Oval, it will signify the end of an era in the AFL because of its status as the last remaining suburban ground in Melbourne.

Butterss gives Optus Oval the boot - realfooty.com.au
The relevance of Optus Oval has again been questioned as fans shunned the venue yesterday when a crowd of only 8078 ventured to the St Kilda-Fremantle match.
Not only was it the smallest crowd at Optus Oval this year - the venue has drawn three attendances of less than 10,000 in 2002 - it was also the smallest crowd for a match in Victoria this season.
St Kilda president Rod Butterss and club chief executive Brian Waldron joined the chorus of clubs disgruntled at having to play at Optus Oval to fulfil the contractual obligations between Carlton and the league, which requires nine games at the ground a season.

 Demonology- Independent Melbourne Demons
Melbourne is attempting to change their scheduled match against Adelaide from Optus Oval to the MCG, fearing a repeat of the poor attendance in round four.
John Elliott’s retaliation claim, that the Melbourne Football Club is no longer an asset to the MCG or the MCC severely backfired when the general manager of the MCC, Stephen Gough, stated facts that overwhelmingly contradict Elliott’s statement.
Firstly, if Melbourne did not play its matches at Optus Oval this season, Carlton would be looking at debts in the order of $500,000 (according to the Carlton Football Club).
