OPUWO - Some people in the Kunene region would be faced with a serious shortage of food unless government intervenes timelessly.
He noted that the only two programmes in existence currently, namely, the food for work and the cash for work programmes might not be sufficient to solve a major food shortage across the country due to poor harvests.
Namibia Red Cross Society's (NRCS) officer, Abel Augustino said that the drought will be experienced but mostly in the Opuwo district or the former Kaokoland, adding that the NRCS as a member of REMU would take part in responding in the event of a drought outbreak.

Added on to the things that I have just mentioned are cultural practices like widow inheritance and intergenerational marriages, high level of alcohol abuse among the youth and people pay for goods with their bodies as well selling sex for money.

AT least 60 per cent of people in the Epupa and Opuwo constituencies in the Kunene region do not have national documents, says the Councillor for the Epupa Constituency, Honourable Kasita Mburura.
He said that this is the reason why he estimates that about 60 per cent of people in the two constituencies of Epupa and Opuwo do not have national documents.
Hartley Karutuvi, the Headman of the Ovambanderu in the Kunene region, said the need for Namibian national documents is confirmed by the constant disputes between immigration officials and community members when people are locked up because they are suspected to be illegal immigrants due to the fact that they do not possess any national documents.

The family wanted to bury their cousin according to Himba rites in his rural village near Opuwo, but Deputy Minister Muharukua told the Afrikaans daily Die Republikein in Windhoek there had been no word from the Zimbabwean authorities.
Miriam Muharukua, a teacher from Opuwo and also a cousin, only learnt about his death when a reporter phoned her.
Of the 12 petitions heard by the High Court, the MDC won eight, and the court nullified Mr Mugabe's victories in all the eight constituencies after it found his Zanu PF had used violence to win.
