Oracle made her one-line debut in Suicide Squad #23 (January 1989) as a mysterious hacker who had invaded the squad's database, and she eventually became a member of the team (under the alias "Amy Beddoes") and the Squad's leader Amanda Waller's second-in-command.

 Batgirl vs Oracle
Through cyberspace, Oracle is connected to virtually every hero on the planet; she is the one true source of information that all heroes have come to rely upon one way or another.
While comics are indeed supposed to simulate real life, both joy and pain, I think DC should have left Barbara Gordon the way she was originally created.
Her role as Oracle is here to stay and she has honorably past down her mantle to the young Cassandra Cain, the third Dark Knight Damsel (who I believe is an exact, not to mention obvious copy of Batman in every way.

Oracle did get a Year One story in The Batman Chronicles #5 in which she received training in self-defence from Richard Dragon to enable her to protect herself, and to help her accept her situation.
Unlike every other member of the JLA Oracle's membership has to be kept secret; there are obviously rumours circulating the DCU about Oracle because Catwoman knew that she existed before she spoke to her (See Birds of Prey: Manhunt mini-series) and Blockbuster is also aware of her.
Oracle can, though, call on any member of the JLA for assistance should their services be required.

 The Oracle: Essays
The only thing comics have that gaming doesn't is a proliferation of truly lurid breasts-and-blood subject matter; that may be one area where gaming bucks the trend.
If we take comics as a model for our industry, what happens next is easy to see coming: The Big Money and the increasingly apparent unprofessionalism of many gaming and card distributors make exclusive distribution deals or even direct distribution a very appealing prospect.
The boom and bust of fl-and-white comics in the 1980s, and then the twin disasters of the sports card crash and the fall of high-hype comics from publishers like Image left distributors and retailers holding a huge bag full of unsold comics.
