In the News (Fri 1 Jan 10)

The Talibanization of the North-West Frontier
Orakzai was born in 1947 and was commissioned in the army in 1968.
Since Orakzai is considered a hardliner, as compared to former governor Khali-u-Rehman, the new appointment gives the impression that the federal government, instead of pursuing dialogue with the militants, is sticking with the military option.
Orakzai said that as a native of the tribal region and as the corps commander of Peshawar for two and a half years, he had observed that tribesmen were peace-loving people.
