Orc (Middle-earth) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to the oldest "theory" proposed by Tolkien (found in The Fall of Gondolin, from The Book of Lost Tales, circa 1917 — the first tale of Middle-earth to be written in full), Orcs were made of stone and slime through the sorcery of Morgoth ("bred from the heats and slimes of the earth").
Orcs are used as soldiers and henchmen by both the greater and lesser villains of The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings — Morgoth, Sauron and Saruman.
The Orc incursion in the northern Shire occurred during the reign of Arassuil as Chieftain of the Dúnedain, and the Orcs led by Golfimbul were but the most western pack of Orcs which had left the Hithaeglir.

Middle-earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien translated "Middle Earth" as Endor (or sometimes Endóre) and Ennor in the Elvish languages Quenya and Sindarin, respectively.
Tolkien insisted that Middle-earth is (part of) our Earth in several of his letters, in one of them (no. 211) estimating the end of the Third Age to about 6,000 years before his own time.
Orcs and Trolls are evil creatures bred by Morgoth.

 The Complete Middle Earth Page
Orcs and goblins are supposedly one and the same thing in Tolkien, but he describes them quite differently in THE HOBBIT (where they are goblins, mostly, with only one or two Orc references) and in THE LORD OF THE RINGS (where they are Orcs, mostly, with only one or two goblin references).
Orcs were also fond of tying their prisoners to trees and torturing them to death.
The Orc chieftain who could throw Boromir, Captain of Gondor, to the ground must have been a considerable warrior in his own right, a champion of the Orcs in war.

 Sports in Middle-earth
Though in stature the least of Middle-earth's sentient denizens, Hobbits can in truth be considered the progenitors of modern English sport.
While Orcs no longer participate in organized sports in Eriador or Gondor, there are rumors that in Mordor they do take part in cruel contests organized by the Dark Lord for the amusement of himself and the Nazgûl.
Such contests can't be scheduled, of course, since Orcs can't be reliably expected to wander into Dwarf realms (unless part of a scheduled invasion from Mordor, of course).

GreenBooks.TheOneRing.net™ Special Guest The Science of Middle-earth: Sex and the Single Orc
In The Science of Middle-earth I contrasted the reproduction of orcs with that of all other 'speaking peoples', noting that only in orcs is there no mention of females in any of Tolkien's work.
But in stories that seldom if ever see the Orcs except as soldiers of armies in the service of the evil lords we naturally would not learn much about their lives.
From this I discussed several options, including the possibility that all orcs are female, and they reproduce clonally.
