Weapons of Middle-earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Glamdring, along with Orcrist, its mate, are described in The Hobbit as having "...beautiful scabbards and jeweled hilts", and Glamdring is referred to by Elrond as "Foe-hammer that the king of Gondolin once wore".
In Unfinished Tales, one of the footnotes to the story "Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin" mentions that the sword of Turgon was "...white and gold...in a ruel-bone (ivory) sheath,..." While Glamdring is not mentioned by name, it is reasonable to assume that the same sword is described.

OSCN Found Document:CINOCCA v. ORCRIST, INC.
Orcrist argued the Petition should be dismissed because Cinocca either failed to plead material elements of the claims or specifically plead the allegations of fraudulent misrepresentation.
Orcrist additionally contended that if Cinocca was allowed to proceed against it, she must do so in binding arbitration because it is a third party beneficiary under the agreement.
She argued [a] the Agreement was inapplicable as to Orcrist, but even if found binding, was unenforceable because she was fraudulently induced to sign it, and [b] the allegations of fraud in the inducement must be resolved before the trial court could either dismiss the case or compel arbitration.

The One Ring: The White Council :: View topic - History Among the Orcs
I contend that the scabbards and sword furniture (hilt, guard and pommel) are so distinctive that it is these that are identified by the goblins at first glimpse- they did not even need to see the glowing blades or mystic runes.
When the Misty Mountains Goblins identify Orcrist it is from its hilt and scabbard as Thorin had had no opportunity to draw it.
I had mentioned that runes may have symbolic as well as phonic meanings, and that the runes on the swords may have been put there to magically enhance the swords' properties, rather than to identify them, so their meanings might be somewhat cryptic.

These include names of the dwarves (with the exception of Dwalin in Czech), elf-names (Elrond, Gondolin, Orcrist, Glamdring, Girion, Galion, Bladorthin, Moria), and a few others (Gandalf, Bilbo, Azog, Radagast and elf).
In some instances, the Czech translator replaced foreign-sounding consonants with their equivalents in the given language, thus w>v, th>t, c>k, ll>l, bb>b in Dwalin, Dorwinion; Esgaroth, (but not in Thor, Thrain and Thorin); Orcrist, Roac; Belladona; hobbit.
The Slovak translation uses such names in their original English form more often; changing only c>k in Orcrist, Roac.
