The Order of Polonia Restituta (,) is a Poland Order (decoration), established on February 4, 1921.
The Order has five classes: The badge of the order is a gold Maltese cross enamelled in white.
It is worn on a ribbon, red with a white stripe near the edges, as a sash on the right shoulder for Grand Cross, around the neck for Commander with Star and Commander, on the left chest with rosette for Officer, and on the left chest without rosette for Knight.

The Order of the White Eagle came in a single class and was awarded for exceptional merit to the Polish Commonwealth.
The Order of Military Virtue was revived by the Polish Republic in 1919, not as an order of chivalry but as the nation's highest gallantry award bestowed "for extreme courage on the field of battle".
The Order of Polonia Restituta (Poland Restored) was established on the 4 February 1921, not as a chivalric order but as an award for outstanding service in the field of Art, Science, Literature, Improvement of Industry, Agriculture, Commerce; and for Acts of Civil Bravery.

 Polish WW2 State Awards
This order was instituted, in five classes, on 4 February 1921 and was renewed in 1944 with slight alterations to the original design by the National Polish Liberation Committee.
After Polish independence, the order was again reinstituted on 1 August 1919 in five classes, predominantly for gallantry in action although the higher classes were intended for generals who achieved a decisive victory or effected a gallant defence.
The 1st class of the order is in gilt, the 2nd class in silver with gilt edges and the 3rd class is in silver.

The Order was not re-constituted after World War I, when Poland regained her independence; instead the Order of Polonia Restituta superseded it.
To establish the Order in the Poland of 1979 was incompatible to the Polish Republic because of Polonia Restituta, and would appear a provocation to the Soviets, given the Russian corruption noted above.
Although fairly unknown outside of the Polish community, the Order of Saint Stanislas numbers thousands of Companions spread throughout the world, made up of honorable men and women of all races and creeds, a true brotherhood of man. It is recognised as a charitable Order concerned with raising the standard of living in East Europe.

The order was awarded to officers and generals for special gallantry, such as, personally leading his troops in rout of a superior enemy force, or capturing a fortress, etc. Before membership in the Order could be granted, a candidate's case had to be investigated by a council composed of Knights of the Order.
The order of St. Vladimir, fourth class, can be seen as the solitary decoration worn by Czar Nicholas II in the photos taken of him during his final days of captivity before he and his family were executed.
The Order of the White Eagle was a one-class order.

I mentioned the Order of Polonia Restituta, held by some Templar members, but distributed by an individual who pretends he was President of the Polish Government in exile.
The Order of Polonia Restituta was a great honor for Poles who bravely served their country and to see this honor brought down by being distributed to all kinds of people who had done nothing whatsoever for Poland, a grave insult to the memory of those who had earned it.
It was the Permanent Observer to the UN of the Republic of Italy who proposed that the Sovereign Military Order of Malta be accorded the same Observer status accorded to the IRC.

 Svenska Heraldiska Föreningen - Heraldica - St. Stanislaws orden
The Order of St Stanislas was founded by Stanislas Augustus Poniatowski, last king of Poland (1764-1795) in 1765 on the eve of the Feast of St Stanislas, Bishop, Martyr and Patron Saint of Poland.
The Order was suspended from a poppy-red sash with white borders and was worn from the right shoulder to the left hip, but Knights who also had the Order of the White Eagle wore the insignia suspended from a cravat around the neck.
The Order of St Stanislas remained in the hands of the Russian Czars until 1917 and was lavishly bestowed on both Russians and foreigners.

As a Russian Order, a fl, double-headed imperial eagle with outstreached wings was added behind the red and white enameled cross with the white enameled eagle.
The Order of St. Stanislas had been a native Polish Order, but had been so thoroughly associated with Russia -- the Russians awarded it generously -- that simply reviving it was unacceptable.
Instead, the new Order Polonia Restitua was created, but using the same ribbon as the old St. Stanislas order (red with white side stripes) to carry on the tradition.

I find this order to be fairly attractive, even in its Communist incarnation, although the quality of both enamel and metal suffered then and in modern post-Communist Poland.
I recently got a cased pre-war piece in the grade of Commander, so I thought I would post it for those who are interested in Polish medals.
