The Imperial Order of the Iron Crown was established June 5, 1805 by Napoleon Bonaparte (under his title of King Napoleon I of Italy).
It took its name from the ancient "iron crown", a medieval jewel with an iron ring, forged from what was supposed to be a nail from the cross as a band on the inside.
Re-established on January 1, 1816 by Emperor Franz I of Austria, it became known as the Order of the Iron Crown (Orden der Eisernen-Krone) and was awarded in three grades to noblemen.

The Order of the Iron Crown, named after the venerable Crown of Lombardy, was established by Napoleon Bonaparte as a civilian order of merit for the kingdom of Italy.
In accordance with the regulations, the knight also wore a beret of violet velvet with silver embroidery, silver cord and white ostrich feather, gloves of white nappa leather with silver embroidery, stockings of white silk jersey and shoes of white velvet with a blue Atlas rosette.

Whether they are exclusive to the Order of the Iron Crown or we are just part of a bigger setting - we need to understand what we intend to do and what we can offer to the members.
This does not preclude the ranking system of the original Order of the Iron Crown, but it does make them more honorific than practical.
