  Partition of a set
In mathematics, a partition of a set X is a way to divide X into different "blocks" that cover all of X and do not overlap.
A partition of a set X is a set of nonempty subsets of X such that every element x in X is in exactly one of these subsets.
With this relation of "being-finer-than", the set of all partitions of a set X is a partially ordered set and indeed even a complete lattice.

W&M: Real Estate - Partition of Real Property
Executors can join with the surviving cotenant for the partition of land owned jointly by their testatrix and the surviving cotenant, where the testatrix makes devises of the land, and where the partition of the land between the estate and the surviving cotenant is necessary for its due administration by the executors.
Partition in kind is the rule and should be generally followed, unless it cannot be conveniently made, or the interest of the parties will be promoted by a sale.
Application may be made and partition of personal property may be obtained in the same manner and under the same regulations as are prescribed by law for obtaining a partition of lands and tenements.

In this note we determine the number of ``hierarchical orderings'' or ``societies'', where the n elements are first partitioned into m <= n subsets and a hierarchy is specified for each subset.
We also consider the unlabeled case, where the ordered Bell numbers are replaced by the composition numbers.
If there is only a single hierarchy, we show that the average rank of an element is asymptotic to n/(4 log 2) in the labeled case and to n/4 in the unlabeled case.

 Pakistan Toward Partition
Congress predictably opposed all proposals for partition and advocated a united India with a strong center and a fully responsible parliamentary government.
Mountbatten assessed the situation and became convinced that Congress was willing to accept partition as the price for independence, that Jinnah would accept a smaller Pakistan than the one he demanded (that is, all of Punjab and Bengal), and that Sikhs would learn to accept a division of Punjab.
The partition plan stated that contiguous Muslim-majority districts in Punjab and Bengal would go to Pakistan, provided that the legislatures of the two provinces agreed that the provinces should be partitioned--they did.

Schmerl], that is, there is an ordered set of width two for which no algorithm exists to calculate the characteristic function of each part of the partition.
An algorithm to partition an ordered set is on-line provided the elements are determined according to a rule that assigns the nth to a part of the partition using only information about the ordered set induced by the first n elements.
There are few notable exceptions, of familiar families of ordered sets, for which there is a neat known formula.
