 Green Expansion for Oregon Convention Center
The original Convention Center, located along Martin Luther King Boulevard between the Lloyd District and the east bank of the Willamette River just a stone’s throw away from the Rose Garden arena, was constructed in 1990.
Perhaps the most impressive as well as the most visible green feature of the expanded Convention Center is its “rain garden” which collects as much as 1,000 cubic feet of stormwater runoff (just under 7,500 gallons) from the 5-acre roof and filters it through a bioswale.
Although daylighting arguably cannot be a substantial factor in a convention center program, in which meeting and exhibit spaces must be able to be completely controlled with varied multimedia programs, there is a noteworthy addition of glass to the project.
