In the Oregon decision, Bearden wrote: ‘‘It is incumbent on the Legislature to evaluate the substantive rights afforded to married couples and to provide similar access to same-sex domestic partners.’’ The judge said he was ruling only on the equal right to benefits, leaving it to state lawmakers to take the next step.
Oregon officials and foes of gay marriage could take the case either to a midlevel appeals court or on to the state Supreme Court.
The Oregon attorney general’s office said in a statement that the new ruling is ‘‘a big step in what will be a bit longer process.’’ The goal from the beginning, the statement said, was to get the issue to the state Supreme Court.

The first meeting of the Umpqua County Court was in Elkton in 1852; later the county government was moved to Green Valley and Yoncalla.
Because the population of Umpqua County had rapidly increased and met the population requirements for a new county, a new county was created on January 7, 1852, out of that portion of Umpqua County lying east of the Coast Range.
Today, Douglas County covers 5,071 square miles and is bounded by Curry, Jackson, and Josephine Counties to the south; Klamath County to the east; Lane County to the north; and Coos County and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

At the first regular session of the county court no 7 December 1864, bills in the amount of $650 were ordered paid and the superintendent of schools was authorized to sell a quantity of the school lands at a price of not less than four dollars per acre.
The location of a county seat was a problem which was to plague the citizens of Union County for nearly 40 years before it was finally settled after the turn of the 20th century.
The agitation for the relocation of the county seat commenced after the election of 1865 and in 1872 Senator James Hendersholt secured the passage of an act in the state legislature calling for a revote to the question.

The statutory width of county roads prior to June 6, 1931 was prescribed as 60 feet, with the county court being empowered to determine a different width.
All county roads shall be sixty feet in width, unless the county court shall, upon the prayer of the petitioners for the same, determine on a different width, not less than forty feet nor more than eighty feet in width.
All county roads shall be of such width as the county court shall determine, which width shall not be less than thirty feet; provided, the proposed width shall be stated in all petitions, notices, orders or resolutions relating to any such county road.

Oregon's most populous county, Multnomah County, is the only jurisdiction in the US that is still issuing licenses for same-sex marriages, handing out 2,550 licenses since 3 March.

 Gilliam County
illiam County was established in 1885 from a portion of Wasco County and was named after Col. Cornelius Gilliam, a veteran of the Cayuse Indian War.
At the general election of 1890, voters chose to move the county seat to Condon, known to early settlers as "Summit Springs." A brick courthouse was built in Condon in 1903 but was destroyed by fire in 1954.
