Oregon is home to six of the 25 largest craft breweries in the nation, of the six the largest is Portland’s Widmer Brothers Brewing Company, which produced 226,492 barrels in 2005 making it the 3rd largest craft brewery in the nation.

Oregon produced a $20 million hop harvest (approximately 10.1 million pounds) last year, with Marion County, including hop farms in the Woodburn, Gervais, Hubbard and St. Paul areas, accounting for about 85 percent of those hops.
The majority of hop growers are third and fourth generation Oregon growers, according to the Oregon Hop Commission, which represents 35 hop growing entities that spring from 24 family farms.
Oregon micro-brewers, or craft brewers, prefer Oregon grown hops because of the flavor, according to Jim Parker executive director for the Oregon Brewers Guild.
