Orestes appears to have come from relative obscurity having little Major League announcing experience but due to the amount of Latinos watching the games around the western hemisphere you can understand ESPN’s willingness to give Orestes the microphone.
Orestes, a Cuban-American who migrated to the US before he could have memories (his parents left Cuba when he was six years old), has repeatedly stated his distaste for Cuban politics although he supports, “the boys on the team” and “sympathizes with the players.”
If Orestes and all other announcers who dare to tackle the political question can leave their ignorance at the door, maybe we can all really speak baseball.
