Trio Sonatas by E. Power Biggs at jsbach.org
Many performers, then, continue to play these works on the organ, but a considerable number find organ performances unsatisfying and manage to perform the sonatas in alternate ways.
Powers Biggs, in this recording originally released in 1967, puts the Forkel-Spitta alternative to the test in this pedal harpsichord rendition.
I could wish that a few things had been done differently, such as less use of the 4" registration for the right hand (e.g., in the finale of BWV 528), which to my ear gives an overly precious sound that does not suit the aura of this music.

Johann Sebastian Bach - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bach was best known during his lifetime as an organist, organ consultant, and composer of organ works both in the traditional German free genres such as preludes, fantasias, and toccatas, and stricter forms such as chorale preludes and fugues.
Bach's other large work, the Mass in B minor, was assembled by Bach near the end of his life, mostly from pieces composed earlier (such as Cantata 191 and Cantata 12).
Bach drew the soprano and alto choristers from the School, and the tenors and basses from the School and elsewhere in Leipzig.

Jacques Loussier Trio The Best Of Play Bach Review By Karl Lozier
I do not have that original Play Bach recording, but I feel certain that Bishop pumped up the mid-bass to sound a bit like an organ for those selections popularly known to often be played on a pipe organ such as the "Toccata and Fugue in D minor".
It is honoring Loussier's seventieth birthday, his original trio's forty-fifth anniversary and the twentieth anniversary of his reformed trio.
Loussier's approach with his piano playing, gets off to an impressive start with great forward momentum obvious in the first few bars of the first selection here which is the "Prelude No 1" from the Well-Tempered Clavier.

Aesop Rock, The Hafler Trio, Wolf Eyes and Heib - The Rubber Room - Stylus Magazine
The Hafler Trio’s “Water (Episode 2)” is an 8 minute spoken word piece, which is muffled beyond any clear level of comprehension, thusly developing a microtonal quality with its insistent echoing chirps and whistles.
The piece by Donnersperg, with its collage of church organ residue, bells, choral samples, etc. is quite autonomous of the other works on this e.p., transcending the industrial/experimental genre altogether and leaving the most permanent impression.
The subsequent tracks by the individual members of KDJ (Asmus Tietchens & Thomas Koner, given one side apiece) are reworkings of “Water (Episode 2).” Koner takes a Porter Ricks approach, twisting a deep bassline into distorted breakbeats, only to threaten the affair with awkward moments of silence.

French Culture Music Loussier Handel CD Contest
During its heyday, the trio broadened the range of its experiments with Loussier double tracking some pieces on organ and piano and, later, recording some of his arrangements of Bach's concerti with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
He feels his new trio has far more stylistic range than its predecessor, and whereas that was a pioneer group, the latterday trio combines jazz, rock and contemporary classical ideas with the mix of jazz and Bach.
The tercentenary of Bach's birth in 1985 coaxed Loussier back to the trio format and he re-formed the Play Bach Trio with two new partners.

So during the Bay Area's vibrant hip-bop boom of the early '90s, he got himself a custom eight-string -- with three fat bass cables -- that allowed him to develop a novel concept: to variously (and simultaneously) lay down bumping low-end riffs, suave melodies, in-the-pocket solos, and rich harmony (B-3 organ-style).
According to the album notes, it's "100% improvised," yet thoroughly cohesive in its hypnotic layers: sumptuously off-kilter and surprisingly tuneful.
Jazz-trained, funk-loving guitarist Charlie Hunter realized early on the limited groove possibilities of playing a standard six-string.
