Oriel Chambers is a revolutionary building by Peter Ellis, in Liverpool, built in 1864, it is a Grade 1 Listed Building.
Oriel Chambers, and the architect's only other building at 16 Cook Street are the city's finest precursors of modernist architecture.
Yet the simplified forms and large windows were venomously vilified - Oriel Chambers was described as 'a great abortion' - and the disheartened Ellis gave up designing buildings.
