Physics - Kinematics - Orientation - Martin Baker
I think of orientation as the current angular position of an object and rotation as an operation which takes a starting orientation and turns it into a possibly different orientation.
Another way to specify orientation is to start with the object that has not been rotated, in other words the objects local x,y and z coordinates are in the same directions as the absolute x,y and z coordinates, then apply rotations about each axis in turn.
Orientation in 3D space can be held in a quaternion (see class sfrotation) or a matrix (see class sftransform).

Why Should Time be Considered in Market Orientation Research? by Claire Gauzente (2001)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
Although, the market orientation literature acknowledges the potential role of time, its implications for research and practice have not been fully developed.
It is clear that market orientation has been long defended by marketing academics (Lear, 1963; Levitt, 1960) but it is only recently (90's) that researchers sought to heavily promote the view that firms should be market oriented.
From the discussion of time effects in the relationship between market orientation and organizational and performance variables, it appears that researchers should define the time span under which a study is considered and under which results are valid.
