Original Stars Hockey League - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Original Stars Hockey League (OSHL) was an attempt to create a league of professional ice hockey teams playing four-on-four games during the 2004 National Hockey League lockout that followed the expiration of the league's collective bargaining agreement with the NHL Player's Association.
Slated to be made up of 78 NHL players, the league debuted on September 17, 2004 in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, divided into six teams representing the cities of the Original Six.
On November 11, 2004, OSHL president Randy Gumbley announced that the league had only received commitments from 20 players, and the league soon folded.

What the league fails to acknowledge in their position it is likely that some teams that are struggling to bring in fans now, like the Carolina Hurricanes or Anaheim Mighty Ducks for instance, may not have any revenue after alienating what is left of their fan base because of this lockout.
League organizer Randy Grumbly stated that no fewer than 113 full-time NHL players have submitted applications to play in the league which will be made up of six teams, with 12 players and one goalie on each side.

The Original Stars Hockey League may very well be the only way hockey-starved fans here in Vancouver and across this country are going to see their heroes in action anytime soon.
And the fact that there won't be a home base for this league, but that it'll travel around the country--the teams are named after the Original Six towns--is what may make it successful.
But by the end of October, when the OSHL is scheduled to touch down here in Vancouver for three games the night before Halloween (likely at the Pacific Coliseum), there's bound to be people suffering from withdrawal.
