YSHP: 1998 Outlook -- Orix BlueWave
For the remainder of the season, the BlueWave continued to recede from the pennant race, almost surrendering second place to the revitalized Buffaloes.
Perhaps the only consolation prize for the BlueWave, other than superstar outfielder Ichiro Suzuki winning his fourth straight batting title, was that they had compiled a winning record against Orix (14-12, one tie).
Batting.268 at the all-star break, Orix finished with a team.263 average (fifth in the league), a drop from their first-place.271 average a year before.

The team previously had been the Orix Braves and prior to that the Hankyu Braves, a strong Pacific League team for decades.
After just over a decade as the BlueWave, the struggling franchise (after three straight last-place finishes) merged with the Kintetsu Buffaloes to form the Orix Buffaloes.
The team will probably go down historically most for the work of Ichiro Suzuki, who won seven straight batting titles with the team from 1994 to 2000 and was MVP three times.
