		Orleans is a classic American Pop/Rock band best known for its hits Dance With Me (1975), Still the One (1976) and Love Takes Time (1979).
		Orleans was formed in Woodstock, NY February 1972 by John Hall, Larry Hoppen and Wells Kelly.

		Please note that the original style was in existence some 20/30 years before the first recordings were made in the early 1920s but it is believed that the style did not change radically until it became a part of the entertainment industry in the early 1920s.
		It was born as a folk music and survived virtually unchanged in New Orleans until 1940 when it was rediscovered and went on to become a worldwide phenomena.
		Joseph "King" Oliver left New Orleans for Chicago in 1918 and by the time these recordings were made had established himself as the premier entertainer in the New Orleans style.

		The two "readers" in the band were Oliver and Manetta, with the latter serving as "straw boss" for Ory in the selection of material and direction of the band.
		Indeed, the band had caught the doughboys going and coming, first as the hottest ticket in New York City 1917-18 when the city served as a major port of embarkation, and later in London in 1919 at the Hippodrome and the Armistice Ball, where they played for the returning servicemen and their generals.

	Traditional Jazz - New Orleans
		The main features of New Orleans jazz are the unscripted ensemble work, the unwritten but generally acknowledged rhythms that may be used, and the defined roles of the instruments.
		"The longer the band has been playing together the closer the harmony in the ensemble work" is a good maxim to judge a New Orleans band by; strings of solos generally indicate that the musicians do not either play together very often or that they do not have much confidence in each other.
		Another band that should be featured is Lu Watter's Yerba Buena Jazz Band who were the prime revivalist on the west coast from the '40s onward; they were also instrumental in getting revivalists to go back to the original recorded sources.

	Narvin Kimball, banjo player for New Orleans band - The Boston Globe
		Kimball was the son of bassist Henry Kimball, and he made his first banjo with a cigar box, stick, and string.

		The Hot Tamale Brass Band have their origins in the colorful Dixieland band that used to hold forth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries in New Orleans.
