Orlengate - Was hinter der Affäre steckt
"Orlengate" zeigt nicht nur eine Fratanisierung von Justiz und Politik, sondern vor allem auch von Tycoons und Spitzenpolitikern.
Die "Rywinaffäre" und "Orlengate" sind keine Einzelfälle, sie stehen für ein System, das sich seit Mitte der 90er Jahre immer deutlicher ausgeprägt hat und unter den Postkommunisten Miller und Kwaśniewski vervollkommnet worden ist.

This week it emerged that the bribery allegation may be part of a wider investigation that has already tarnished the reputation of President Kwasniewski of Poland.
According to the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza, Mr Dochnal’s arrest followed the release of 160 taped phone calls to a parliamentary committee investigating the so-called Orlengate scandal in which £40 million in bribes were allegedly paid to senior Polish politicians by Russian energy giants competing for Polish projects.

Corruption in government continued to be a primary focus of Polish media, with the "Rywingate" and "Orlengate" scandals predominating.
The sentence was reduced to 2 years in December, when the court determined that Rywin was acting as an agent, and not alone.
The Orlengate scandal surfaced in October, when notes obtained from the Government's security service indicated that the country's richest businessman had a meeting with a former Russian spy, in which he suggested he had official approval to negotiate the sale of state-owned Rafineria Gdanska, the country's second-largest oil refinery.

 Rywin affair - Definition, explanation
It was the party's deputy Zbigniew Ziobro who had authored the radical minority report the Sejm had passed.
At the moment (late 2004), the Rywin affair is already being overshadowed by another scandal, which could have even more far-reaching effects: The so-called Orlen affair (afera Orlenu, Orlengate) surrounding the privatization of the largely state-owned oil giant PKN Orlen.
Against the background of these affairs, right-wing politicians, in particular from the Law and Justice party, are pushing claims to "purge" the (allegedly) inherently corrupt post-1989 "Third Republic" (III Rzeczpospolita) from left-wing and liberal politicians and to replace it with a more authoritative and morally "sound" constitution for a "Fourth Republic".

Kulczyk's Property Continues to Divide Orlengate Committee - No matter how history judges the overall accomplishments of right wing deputies in the Orlengate committee, one thing surely deserves acknowledgement, if not praise.
By trying to seize the property of billionaire Jan Kulczyk, they had their left wing colleagues accuse them of bolshevism.
Jan Kulczyk's attempt to eliminate the representatives of the opposition from the Orlengate committee clearly shows that in the political battle between the left and the right that is taking place in Poland, the businessman identifies himself with the former, and that he would gladly silence those who could ask him some uncomfortable questions.

(Poland A.M.) Stocks The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) was buzzing with rumors that Poland's richest man, Jan Kulczyk, who is heavily implicated in the Orlengate controversy, partly through an alleged meeting with a Russian spy, is selling his shares in the oil company.
The Securities and Exchange Commission is said to be investigating whether Kulczyk had been honest about the amount of Orlen shares he owns because secret service notes on his meeting with Russian spy Vladimir Alganov indicate that he could control more than he admitted publicly.
Zbigniew Wasserman, the deputy head of the Special Parliamentary Commission investigating the Orlengate scandal, said that the Commission asked the General Prosecutor to look into possible grounds on which to secure Jan Kulczyk's assets.
