In 1582, the King of Lara (Larack an island near Ormuz), which had revolted, laid siege to the fortress of Ormuz, but the Portuguese succeeded in drive off the invaders and their in turn besieged the Lara's fort of Xamel which was taken by the Portuguese.
During the decade after the fall of Ormuz, the Portuguese, under the command of Rui Freire de Andrada, tried several times (1623, 1624, 1625, 1627) to regain the fortress, the last attempt in 1631, was a diplomatic one, but all these attempts failed.
After the loss of Ormuz the Portuguese established their base in Mascate, and in 1623, a feitoria (trading station) was established also in Bassora at the mouth of the Eufrate River.

Fire-Tongue by Sax Rohmer: Chapter X. His Excellency Ormuz Khan
Ormuz Khan withdrew his hand sharply from the cushion, glanced aside at the girl, and then, extending his hand again, pushed her away from him.
Because of her half-kneeling posture, she almost fell, but managed to recover herself by clutching at the edge of a little table upon which the implements of her trade were spread.
Ormuz Khan never glanced in her direction again, but resumed his disconcerting survey of Parker.

She knew at the bottom of her heart that this had always been so, but she had suffered his attentions in much the same spirit as that which imbues the naturalist who studies the habits of a poisonous reptile.
Ormuz Khan shrugged his slight shoulders and glanced at a diamond-studded wrist watch which he wore.
Ormuz Khan conducted her to a wonderfully carven chair over which a leopard's skin was draped and there she seated herself.

 Timur at Persian Gulf,
In 1290 the Mongols invaded Ormuz, and the inhabitants fled to a barren volcanic island, at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, which was named Ormuz, in memory of the ancient city.
The city is described by Abdul Rizak, the ambassador sent by Shah Rokh to India in 1442, as a place which has not its equal on the surface of the globe.
He returned to Samarkand in 1396, and occupied himself for some time in the arrangement of the internal affairs of his vast empire, and in erecting splendid edifices in the land of his birth.

These ships bring many pearls, and some of them bring rubies, (which are very fine in China), and much spice; and from Ormuz these things are sent to all parts of the world.
Most of the pearls are found in that sea of China, and they bring them to the city of Ormuz, to be pierced and cut; and the Moorish and Christian merchants say that they know of no place where the pearls can be pierced, except this city of Ormuz (Hormoz or Hormuz).
They also say that these pearls are formed in large shells, which they call jacares; and those who come from China, and from Ormuz, say that the pearl is formed in the shells, which are large, and as white as paper.

Chivers did not appear to be vastly perturbed by this prospect, and he grinned agreeably at Parker as the latter made his way out into the courtyard.

With the remains of his fleet he attacked Muscat, a fortress in the Persian Gulf, in the country of Oman, which he took, and made the inhabitants prisoners.
He then laid waste the islands of Ormuz and Barkhet.

The chroniclers don't say what he did next, but I suppose he went back to Ormuz instead of accompanying D. Alvaro to Goa, since the commander of Ormuz didn't have the authority to punish him.

Medieval Sourcebook: Sidi Ali Reis (16th Century CE): Mirat ul Memalik ("The Mirror of Countries")
There he learned from the captive infidel captain that the Christian [Portuguese] fleet was on its way, that therefore any further delay was inadvisable, as in case it arrived he would not be able to leave the harbor at all.
A water-supply had also to be arranged for, and as it was yet five months before the time of the monsoon, I had plenty of leisure to visit the mosque of Ali and the graves of Hasan Basri, Talha, Zobeir, Uns-bin-Malik, Abdurrahman-bin-Anf, and several martyrs and companions of the Prophet.
He promised that henceforth, if at any time our fleet should come to Ormuz, he would undertake to send 50 or 60 boats to supply us with provisions, and in every possible way to be of service to us.

Had the Turks won India would’ve become a Muslim dominion, and by extension an arm of the expanding Ottoman Empire in the East.
The Portuguese followed this battle by rapidly capturing key ports/coastal areas around the Indian Ocean like Mombasa, Socotora, Muscat, Ormuz, Goa, Ceylon and Malacca.
This allowed them to circumvent the traditional land/sea spice route controlled by the Arabs and the Venetians, and by routing the trade down the Cape of Good Hope, they also simultaneously crippled the Mamlûk Burji Sultanate of Egypt, the Ottoman Empire, Venetian Republic and the Sultanate of Gujarat (which was at its peak then).
