Ornithogalum is a genus of plants that belongs to the family Hyacinthaceae.
Ornithogalum dubium is a long blooming plant with beautiful large flowers, yellow to orange or rarely white, often with a green or brown center.
Ornithogalum reverchonii is native to southwestern Spain and Morocco, growing in crevices in limestone, but it does not require lime in cultivation, as evident in the photographed plants, which were grown from seed and are kept in a bulb frame in Oregon in mildly acid gritty soil.

Ornithogalum is a new plant for cut flower and also for potted plant production.
Ornithogalum conicum, Bokbaai type of O. thyrsoides 7050A, 7050B and a seedling from a cross between O. conicum x 7050C which were considered as a possible paternal parent of the seedlings were also analyzed.
Ornithogalum thyrsoides, instead of O. conicum, should be used in the future breeding efforts to breed a paper white flower with cup-shaped florets.

 Dormancy problems in Ornithogalum dubium
This year, not one of the 5 has appeared for me. All 5 bulbs are definitely still there though.
I have nothing else that i know of that skips seasons regularly, just the Ornithogalum dubium (orange) and the M. polystachya.
I was hoping there was a simple answer, but didn't really expect there to be .

Here is what I wrote then with a few changes as I see it is still relevant and will save me some time writing it all over again: Subject: Ornithogalum dubium Dear Lyn, I just wanted you to know that you are not the only one to lose Ornithogalum dubium.
I watered the Ornithogalum dubium last summer which is maybe why at least some of the bulbs have come up this year.
Our Ornithogalum dubium grow in 16 cm pots in full sun and in late Spring they flower profusely and if allowed to, set seed.

Recently I purchased a plant from my local Home Depot that was new to me. It has proved to be a prolific bloomer and so my interest to learn more about it was piqued.
It looks to me like a ornithogalum, but it is a deep shade of purple.
Does anyone have any information about this or has anyone ever heard of a purple ornithogalum?
