Hadrosaurus, genus of dinosaur in the suborder Ornithopoda.
Introduction to Ornithopoda: The Ornithopoda are a group of medium to large plant-eating dinosaurs.
Ornithopoda means "bird feet ", from the Greek ornis ("bird") and pous ("feet"); this refers to their characteristic three- toed feet, although many early forms retained four toes.

But nowadays the Fabrosaurs are considered distinct from the rest of the Ornithopoda and the ornithopods lost their ancestor status.
There was also a tendency towards a broad flaring of the snout and massive dental batteries, all of which reached their extreme in the hadrosaurids or 'duck-bileld" dinosaurs, perhaps the most efficienmt and abundant of all the dinosaurian plant-eaters.
Suggests that the Hypsilophodontia, are a paraphyletic sequence of ancestors to higher ornithopods, and not, as previously thought, a monophyletic sister clade of Iguanodontia.

Ornithopoda (or-nith-uh-PODE-ah) consists of bipedal herbivores with horny beaks.
Larger ornithopods may have walked on all fours when moving slowly, but like the theropods, they ran with their bodies and tails horizontal to the ground.
Heterodontosauridae, a family of ornithopoda, were among the smallest and earliest ornithischians.

The evolution of the suborder Ornithopoda in China began in the Late Triassic of Sichuan, where they are typically represented by the Heterodontosauridae.
Traditionally, the suborder Ornithopoda is regarded as originating on the Gondwana Continent; however, in 1965, Simmons reported on a small heterodontosaurid, Tatisaurus, from the Lufeng sediments of Yunnan, China.
Currently, there is a gap within the evolutionary systematics of the Ornithopoda that is represented by the lack of Early to Middle Jurassic taxa that lie between the Late Triassic Heterodontosauridae and Late Jurassic Hypsilophodontidae.

 All About Hadrosaurs
The Ornithopoda or bird-footed dinosaurs were one branch (suborder) of the Ornthischia that lived for some 140 million years, during the better part of both the Jurassic and the Cretaceous periods.
The Ornithopoda were medium to large in size, by dinosaur standards.
These two adaptations, along with the cheeks common to all Ornithopoda, helped to make them particularly well adapted to chewing and eating even the toughest of the vegetation flourishing at the time.

Re: Ornithopoda + (Heterodontosauridae + Marginocephalia) phylogeny
To further muddy the waters, the basal relationships of ornithischians are still being sorted out, and might produce a few surprises.
The only exceptions are those critters (e.g., _Pisanosaurus_, _Lesothosaurus_) that diverged before the great Cerapoda-Thyreophora split, and dwell at the very base of the Ornithischia.
But if in future analyses thyreophorans come out as closer to euornithopods (hypsilophodonts, iguanodonts, hadrosaurs), and heterodontosaurids are united with marginocephalians, then the Ornithopoda (under Sereno's definition) would include *all* ornithischians, except for the basalmost forms (_Pisanosaurus_, _Lesothosaurus_, etc).

Trachodon Prehistoric Animals Trachodon Pictures catalog extinct extinction endangered Trachodon is the name applied to one of the duckbilled DINOSAURS of the family Hadrosauridae (suborder Ornithopoda, order Ornithischia).
The name was proposed for a single fossil tooth, about 65 million years old, found in the Upper Cretaceous Judith River Formation of Montana--the first fossil remains of a duckbilled dinosaur to be found.
Trachodon is the name applied to one of the duckbilled DINOSAURS of the family Hadrosauridae (suborder Ornithopoda, order Ornithischia).

More recently some of these groups have been shown to be related and hence united under larger sub-ordinal groups, while new groups are also required by modern discoveries.

They are among the earliest and most primitive members of the dinosaurian suborder Ornithopoda, which was to attain great importance during the Cretaceous, especially the Late Cretaceous period.
Perhaps the hadrosaurids' most salient characteristic is the dental battery, with multiple generations of teeth all working simultaneously to form a remarkably effective food processing apparatus.
The record of Triassic ornithischians is very sparse, and the major ornithischian groups clearly radiated from rather similar basal stock in that period.

All members of the Order Ornithischia (which includes the Ornithopoda, Ceratopians, Stegosauria, and Ankylosaurids) were herbivorous (plant-eating), and, with the exception of the Ornithopoda, all were quadrupedal, meaning that they walked on all four of their legs.

However, for the sake of simplicity, we will consider the dinosaurs Camptosaurus, Iguanodon, Ouranosaurus, and close relatives as belonging to the family Iguanodontidae.
We will further consider Iguanodontidae to be a sister clade to the monophyletic Hadrosauridae (the most derived members of the Ornithopoda).
The iguanodontids were bipedal herbivores that lived during Late Jurassic to Late Cretaceous time.
