Cacique Orocobix, was the Taíno regional chief of the area called Jatibonicu.
The Jatibonicu region is located in the central mountain range of Puerto Rico and covers the present day municipalities of Aibonito, Orocovis, Barranquitas, Morovis and Corozal.

It is said that Cacique Orocobix had a younger brother named Oromico who was one of the Nitayno (Sub-Chiefs) who was the head of one of the smaller yucayeques (villages) that was found in the western region of the Jatibonicu Taino tribal Homeland.

Located in the area that is known as "The Heart of Puerto Rico", it is bordered by: Ciales, Morovis and Corozal to the north; Juana Diaz, Villalba and Coamo to the south; Ciales to the west; and Barranquitas to the east.
The green stripes represent the territories of Aibonito and Barranquitas and the two small white stripes represent those portions of territory yielded by the municipalities of Barranquitas and Morovis for the formation of the Barros municipality, in 1825, that is the present municipality of Orocovis.
The central blue strip represents the regional dominion Chief Orocobix, previous to the colonization.

 The Jatibonicu Taino Tribal Nation of Borikén
They would establish or create a fourth (4) village known as Morovis, from one of the barrios or boroughs of the village that was formerly known by the Taino name of "Barros".
The village of Barros was officially renamed to Orocovis to honor the memory of Principal Chief Orocobix in the year 1825.
These pueblos or villages are located in the Central Mountain Range of what is known today as La Cordillera Central (The Central Mountain Range).

Our New Jersey Taino Tribal Band has its own United States Taino Tribal Council Government and today serves as the United States region office of the Taino Tribe of Jatibonicu' of Boriken (Puerto Rico),that has representation via two (2) NJ Inter-Tribal Commissioner within the New Jersey Commission on Indian Affairs.
