Orthodox Bahá'í Faith - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although the beliefs of the main division and the Orthodox Bahá'ís are for the most part identical, they differ on the issue of ongoing leadership.
The majority of Bahá'ís, under the Hands of the Cause of God (a group of Bahá'ís that included Charles Mason Remey, and that was appointed by Shoghi Effendi according to the provisions of `Abdu’l-Bahá's Will and Testament) followed the Hands' leadership of the Faith.
According to the members of the Orthodox Bahá'í Faith, Joel Bray Marangella became Guardian of the Orthodox Bahá'í Faith based on the activation by Mason Remey of the Second International Bahai Council with Marangella as its appointed President in October 1965, and by Remey's earlier written appointment of him as Guardian.

Bahá'í theology speaks of three interlocking unities: the oneness of God (monotheism); the oneness of his prophets or messengers (religious perennialism); and the oneness of humanity (equality, globalism).
Bahá'ís regard the period from the Bab's declaration in Shiraz, to the passing of `Abdu'l-Bahá (1844-1921), as the Heroic, or the Apostolic Age of the Faith.
Bahá'ís ultimately expect a process, similar to democratic globalization, to continue until "the world is one country," and see their faith as providing the necessary spiritual basis for this new civilization of peace and harmony.

 Encyclopedia Article: The Covenant
The Bahá'í Faith recognizes two covenants: first, the greater covenant, between God, represented by the Manifestation of God (q.v.), on the one hand, and humanity on the other, in which God promises to continue to send guidance to humankind, while humanity, on its part, promises to obey and follow these teachings when they come.
The Bahá'í scriptures note and indeed emphasize the continuity of the theme of the greater covenant in the history of religion (or at least that of the Western religions).
At present the institutions of the Bahá'í Faith are primarily responsible for dealing with any episodes of Covenant-breaking that arise, in particular the Hands of the Cause, the Continental Board of Counselors (q.v.), and their Auxiliary Boards.

Rather, the Bahá'í Faith is not a sect precisely because it fails to fulfill the aforementioned criteria for sects.
The often emphasized non-political character of the Bahá'í Faith should by no means be misunderstood as the absence of political goals and indifference to society: the idea of the unity of mankind and the foundation of a world federal state is, far from a mere pious hope, an eminent political goal.
Categorizing the Bahá'í religion among the Islamic sects or sub-communities is as inappropriate as describing Islam as a Jewish or Christian sect.

in 1863, however, Bahá declared himself to be "He whom God shall manifest" (Man Yuz-hiruhu ildls, with prophecies of whose advent the works of the Báb are filled), and called on all the Bábiis to recognize his claim.
After that date the Bábiis divided into two sects, Ezelis 'and Bahá'ís, of which the former steadily lost and the latter gained ground, so that in 1908 there were probably from half a million to a million of the latter, and at most only a hundred or two of the former.
In 1868 Bahá and his followers were exiled to Acre in Syria (now Acca, Israel), and Subh-i-Ezel with his few adherents to Famagusta in Cyprus, where he was still living in 1908.
