Eastern Orthodox Church - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eastern Orthodox ecclesiology is "Christocentric", viewing Christ Jesus as the head of the Church, and the Church as his body; with authority derived directly from this relationship.
While the Eastern Orthodox Church holds the Septuagint version of the Old Testament as its standard, the OT is not used to any great degree in church services (unlike in Protestant churches where it is used extensively) with the exception of the Psalms and the prophecies leading up to the incarnation of Christ.
In the Catholic Church of the Latin Rite, this was achieved through the use of Ecclesiastical Latin; in the Orthodox churches the altar area was surrounded by pillars with curtains in between.

Saint Catherine's Monastery, Mount Sinai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saint Catherine's Monastery on the Sinai peninsula, at the mouth of an inaccessible gorge at the foot of Mount Sinai, in Egypt is probably the oldest continuously functioning Christian monastery.
The monastery also comprises the entire Orthodox Church of Mount Sinai, an autonomous (as distinct from autocephalous) Orthodox Christian church headed by an archbishop, who is also the abbot of the monastery.
The archbishop is traditionally consecrated by the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem.

Excerpts from the Orthodox Church by Bishop Kallistos Ware   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The Orthodox, therefore, make what may seem at first a surprising claim: they regard their Church as the Church which guards and teaches the true belief about God and which glorifies Him with right worship, that is, as nothing less than the Church of Christ on earth.
An Orthodox church today is filled with them: dividing the sanctuary from the body of the building there is a solid screen, the iconostasis, entirely covered with icons, while other icons are placed in special shrines around the church; and perhaps the walls are covered with icons in fresco or mosaic.
Orthodox, for example, must blame themselves for the pride and contempt with which during the Byzantine period they regarded the west; they must blame themselves for incidents such as the riot of 1182, when many Latin residents at Constantinople were massacred by the Byzantine populace.

Where Is Mount Sinai by Emmanuel Anati
In the story of Moses in Midian, Mount Sinai is described as being on the edge of the pasture land of Midian and on the way between Jethro's residence and Egypt.
One of the main emerging points is that Mt. Sinai, according to the narration, must be located on or near the border between the land of Midian and the land of Amalek.
Sinai, according to the biblical narration, should be located between these two regions, meaning in the Har Karkom area.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Orthodox Church
The Orthodox, then, are the Christians in the East of Europe, in Egypt and Asia, who accept the Councils of Ephesus and Chalcedon (are therefore neither Nestorians nor Monophysites), but who, as the result of the schisms of Photius (ninth cent.) and Cerularius (eleventh cent.), are not in communion with the Catholic Church.
These sixteen Churches are: (1) The four Eastern patriarchates — Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem — and the Church of Cyprus, independent since the Council of Ephesus.
They are the six national churches of Russia, Greece, Servia, Montenegro, Rumania, and Bulgaria, four independent Churches in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, namely Carlovitz, Hermannstadt, Czernovitz, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and lastly the Church of Mount Sinai, consisting of one monastery separated from Jerusalem.

Throughout her history, the Orthodox Church has exercised discipline with compassion when it is needed, always to help bring a needed change of heart and to aid God's people to live pure and holy lives, never as a punishment.
Orthodox preaching does not attempt to predict God's prophetic schedule, but to encourage Christian people to have their lives in order so that they might be confident before Him when He comes (I John 2:28).
To be an Orthodox Christian, walking orderly in the Church, to have the necessary branches of knowledge and moral character, to be in good physical condition, and to have an inclination and a call to His Holy work; the ordaining Bishop must be canonical and have the license to ordain.

As Orthodox Christians however, we must remember that it is not the size of the building or even the outward beauty of the House we pray in, it is the Spiritual beauty and the Holy Spirit running through the House which makes it so special.
