BIOGRAPHY OF C. (Cornelius Knute) Orton was born (October 11, 1846) in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, moved to Iowa (1853), and then to Lanesboro, Minnesota (1857) where he was a bookkeeper and merchant.
The village of Ortonville was named for him and he served as its first postmaster (1875), village officer (1881), and owner and operator of Orton's Bank.
