Oscar Lathlin is a politician in Manitoba, Canada, and is a current cabinet minister in the New Democratic Party government of Gary Doer.
Lathlin was born and raised at the Opaskwayak Cree Nation in The Pas, in northern Manitoba.
In the 1990 provincial election, Lathlin was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for the northern riding of The Pas, narrowly defeating Progressive Conservative Alfred McDonald.

Oscar Lathlin, the MLA who is proposing the amendments, has said that they deal only with penned hunting.
Lathlin does not know what the amendments really accomplish or he is deliberately misleading the public.

We first heard of the proposed amendments in February and understood that they were to deal only with "penned hunting." There had been a public uproar against this practice triggered by the Winnipeg Humane Society which, together with the NDP government’s election promise to introduce a Bill to prohibit it, resulted in the proposed amendments.
Lathlin’s letter indicates, there will be province wide consultation meetings with all stakeholders, and that includes all bird owners in the Province.

If there is a clear consensus, the department could recommend creation of a permanent park, but the province also has the option of extending the park reserve for another five years.

"The government will no longer permit any new penned hunting operations in Manitoba," said Lathlin.

The Ajax, Ont., hitmakers this week moved to have six polar bears released from Puerto Rico, where they're being kept in sweltering conditions by the Suarez Bros. Circus.
Acting on behalf of People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA), Sum 41 sent a letter to Manitoba's Minister Of Conservation, Oscar Lathlin, asking that he oversee the bears' rescue.
PETA reports that the bears are kept in cages in temperatures up to 45oC and whipped into performing tricks.

"It will reduce the probability of a system failure to as low a level as possible," Lathlin said.
