Oscar Traynor (1886-1963) was born on 21 March, 1886 into a strongly nationalist family in Abbey Street in Dublin.
Following the 1957 General Election, it was Traynor who spoke to de Valera in 1958 and persuaded him to retire as Taoiseach and to contest the Presidential Election of 1959 which would arise due to the compulsory retirement of the then President of Ireland, Seán T. O'Kelly.
Oscar Traynor died on December 21, 1963 in Dublin.
