Oscarsborg Fortress - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oscarsborg festning is a coastal fortress in the Oslofjord, close to the small city of Drøbak.
The fortress became famous on April 9, 1940 during World War II for the sinking of the German heavy cruiser Blücher.
Having been caught utterly by surprise by the ferocity of the Norwegian defence the German flotilla withdrew beyond the range of the fortress' guns, the Lützow using her remaining Bruno turret to bombard the defenders from a range of 11 kilometers down the fjord.
