OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP - Tempers flared Monday night as Osceola Township officials tried to sort through the reasons for John Keathley's demotion from the Evart Fire Department in July.
Township officials heard both sides of the story, which included firsthand accounts from fire board member Deb Beadle, the township's representative, and Keathley, a township resident and former fire chief.
Several questions were raised to the township board and among the audience concerning Keathley's demotion, the appointment of Beadle's daughter to the department and whether or not the department could serve the community with so many internal conflicts.

OSCEOLA TOWNSHIP -- Trustees in this Osceola County township have approved a zoning change that would accommodate a proposed bottled water plant facing some grass-roots opposition.
Critics in Osceola County are considering whether to begin their own referendum drive, the Grand Rapids Press reported Tuesday.
   Township Supervisor Darwin Booher, who voted in favor of the zoning change, said concerns about the impact on area wells, lakes and wetlands were exaggerated.
