 Oscilloscope
The DI-770 oscilloscope is provided with two 1:1 and 10:1 switchable oscilloscope probes.
Add to this the instrument's ability to operate incrementally as a voltmeter, data logger, spectrum analyzer, and a function/arbitrary waveform generator and the instrument is solidly positioned as an alternative to multiple, bulky conventional instruments.
The DI-770 oscilloscope can be directly mounted on any DI-720 or DI-730 Series instrument to create a system combination capable of addressing the entire industrial spectrum of voltages and frequencies.

 Oscilloscope
Oscilloscopes are widely used both as diagnostic instruments in electronics development and as monitors in experimental research.
The oscilloscope is an electronic instrument based on the cathode ray tube (CRT), the essential parts of which are an electron gun which produces a fine electron beam and a fluorescent film which lights up when struck by the electrons.
Other important parts of an oscilloscope include a time-base generator that serves as a clock, and two sets of deflection plates that are used to steer the electron beam.

 The Oscilloscope
The usefulness of an oscilloscope is not limited to the world of electronics.
Analog oscilloscopes are somewhat simpler in concept and are described first, followed by a description of digital oscilloscopes.
When you connect an oscilloscope probe to a circuit, the voltage signal travels through the probe to the vertical system of the oscilloscope.

 The Oscilloscope
The main purpose of an oscilloscope is to display the level of a signal relative to changes in time.
A voltmeter is fine for measuring steady levels like test tones or for checking flashlight batteries, but it is impossible to observe a signal's instantaneous value - or to determine whether you have a square wave or a sine for that matter - since the meter's pointer could never move that fast.
Some oscilloscope models have four or eight inputs - the ultimate in digital circuit monitoring - and adapters are also available for regular scopes to let them display many different inputs at once.

 Electronics: Soundcard-Oscilloscope
Using a 10:1 oscilloscope probe at a typical soundcard input with an impedance in the order of 1 kOhm would give an attenuation of 10000:1 instead and since the impedance of most soundcards is not even known to the user, a complicated calibration would be necessary.
The bandwidth of the oscilloscope is limited to at max half the sample frequency, i.e.

 Oscilloscopes (CROs)
An oscilloscope is a test instrument which allows you to look at the 'shape' of electrical signals by displaying a graph of voltage against time on its screen.
Oscilloscopes contain a vacuum tube with a cathode (negative electrode) at one end to emit electrons and an anode (positive electrode) to accelerate them so they move rapidly down the tube to the screen.
Most oscilloscopes have a BNC socket for the y input and the lead is connected with a push and twist action, to disconnect you need to twist and pull.

Oscilloscope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An oscilloscope (sometimes abbreviated CRO, for cathode-ray oscilloscope, or commonly just scope or O-scope) is a piece of electronic test equipment that allows signal voltages to be viewed, usually as a two-dimensional graph of one or more electrical potential differences (vertical axis) plotted as a function of time or of some other voltage (horizontal axis).
The CRT in an oscilloscope uses electrostatic deflection.
The first oscilloscopes used analog technology in which the electron beam traced on the oscilloscope's screen directly traced the input voltage's waveform.

In any oscilloscope, the horizontal sweep is measured in seconds per division (s/div), milliseconds per division (ms/div), microseconds per division (s/div), or nanoseconds per division (ns/div).

A typical oscilloscope can display alternating current (AC) or pulsating direct current (DC) waveforms having a frequency as low as approximately 1 hertz (Hz) or as high as several megahertz (MHz).
The oldest form of oscilloscope, still used in some labs today, is known as the cathode-ray oscilloscope.
In any oscilloscope, the horizontal sweep is measured in seconds per division (s/div), milliseconds per division (ms/div), microseconds per division (us/div), or nanoseconds per division (ns/div).

Upon changing time base or zoom the previous oscilloscope displays cannot be fit inside the work screen in full, at that the slider is getting smaller than the scroll bar proportionally with the oscilloscope display length within the work screen to the total oscilloscope display length ratio.
It follows that to show the most reliable oscilloscope display, which amplitude is within ±2 V it is expedient to select scale range ±2 Volt/Screen or lower.
For normal previewing the oscilloscope display it is recommended that the sampling frequency is 5-6 times higher than the maximum input frequency.

using an oscilloscope   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
An oscilloscope is easily the most useful instrument available for testing circuits because it allows you to see the signals at different points in the circuit.
The function of an oscilloscope is extremely simple: it draws a V/t graph, a graph of voltage against time, voltage on the vertical or Y-axis, and time on the horizontal or X-axis.
Before you switch the oscilloscope on, check that all the controls are in their 'normal' positions.

This particular digital pc oscilloscope that we produced was successful in running, although it did not meet all of our hopes and goals stated in the proposal.
Because the time to sample the digital data and the time to display it are not equal we need to add a time delay to synchronize the graphed, otherwise the graphed data will be jumping around the screen as the screen is updated.
Due to lack of necessary time and money we were unable to meet the specifications that the marketing PC oscilloscope are running at.

I designed and built this oscilloscope in 1986 using the chassis of a non-working vacuum tube oscilloscope, keeping only the original high voltage vacuum tube supply and CRT.
This construction project is only for the experienced designer, since you will want to change and adapt parts of the circuit to accommodate new semiconductors and devices.
I recommend that you do not build an oscilloscope from these schematics, but rather, understand the design principles and come up with a more modern design.
