Osmaston Manor was being constructed at that time, as a home for the wealthy industrialist Francis Wright, whose family owned the Butterley Ironworks near Ripley.
Osmaston takes the appearance of a picturesque model village, with its brick built thatched cottages, village hall, primary school, duckpond, church, and of course pub.
Osmaston Hall was once a splendid mock tudor manor house in a superb setting amongst trees and lakes.

 William Darwin Fox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fox was born and initially raised at Thurlston Grange near Elvaston, Derbyshire and later Osmaston Hall at Osmaston about 2 miles (3.2km) south of Derby.
The Hall and its associated 4,000 acre (1,600 hectare) estate was owned by the Wilmot-Horten family and leased to the Fox family from 1814 to 1887 and sold subsequently in 1888 to the Midland Railway.
Fox graduated from Cambridge in the winter of 1829 and shortly thereafter became the Vicar of Osmaston.

Osmaston is a picturesque village two and a half miles south of Ashbourne.
The former Osmaston Manor was built in 1865 for the Wright family, Ironmasters, and later came into the possession of the Walker family.
There used to be an avenue of Lime trees leading to Osmaston park, these were destroyed by a gale in February 1962.

Wilmot was the eldest son in his generation and the heir to Osmaston; which explains his coming to the notice of the 3rd Duke of Devonshire, his first patron, to whom he became private secretary, c.1734.
Sir Nicholas Wilmot, of Osmaston, serjeant-at-law in the reign of Charles II., was fourth son of Robert Wilmot, Esq., of Chaddesden.

OSMASTON (near Derby) is a parish 1½ miles south-east from Derby railway station, in the Southern division of the county, hundred of Repton and Gresley, Derby county court district and petty sessional division, Shardlow union, rural deanery and archdeaconry of Derby and diocese of Southwell.
The living is a rectory, average tithe rent-charge £4, net yearly value £106, including 62 acres of glebe and residence, in the gift of Sir Robert Rodney Wilmot bart.
Osmaston Hall, formerly the residence of the late Rev. Sir George Lewis Wilmot-Horton bart.

The first sections opened were from The Spot to the Harrington Arms at Alvaston; a branch line to the Midland Railway's station, and from The Spot to Abingdon Street (to serve the new depot).
In June 1935 a new service to Browning Circle on the Austin Lane estate was introduced, and in November 1936 a new route to Allenton (extended to Shelton Lock in 1938), via the Chaddesdon Park Road area, commenced.
At the same time the motorbus service along Osmaston Park Road was converted to trolleybus operation and in 1937 a route to Darley Park Drive from the Cornmarket opened.

Osmaston, is a small Derbyshire country estate village.
The manor house, Osmaston Manor - built for Wright in 1849, no longer stands, being demolished in 1964 by Sir Ian Walker who then moved to his Staffordshire estate at Okeover, and took up the Okeover name (Walker-Okeover).
The estate at Osmaston is still owned by the Walker-Okeovers and today is the location for the internationally recognised annual Osmaston Horse Trials, as well as the more local annual Ashbourne Shire Horse Show
