  Osney Abbey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Osney Abbey or Oseney Abbey was a house of Augustinian canons at Osney, west of Oxford, England.
Osney was (along with St Osyth, Cirencester, Llanthony, and Holy Trinity, London), one of the great Augustinian houses of medieval England.
In 1199, the church of St George in Oxford Castle was translated and annexed to the abbey.

 Robert D'Oyly (Osney) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert D'Oyly, a 12th century English nobleman, son of Nigel D'Oyly - nephew of Robert D'Oyly, founder of Oxford Castle.
In 1129 he was persuaded by his wife to build the Church of St Mary, in the Isle of Osney, near Oxford Castle, for the use of Augustine Monks - this was to become Osney Abbey.
Robert and Edith had at least two children, Henry, buried at Osney, and Gilbert.

Rob Sparkes also made the first breakthrough into the Oxfordshire county team, representing the B team for the course of the season and finishing ranked 12th in the County picking up a man of the match award along the way.
As ever the Osney won the league and also the cup, with a win over the students' team in the first round.

Transferring one of the world's greatest books collections on to land beside a flood plain was dismissed as "lunacy" by one history don.
The implications for the university's 600 library staff were raised at a meeting in the Examination Schools on Monday.
He said the old library buildings were incapable of containing the hundreds of thousands of new printed items arriving each year and the new Osney Mead depository, housing up to nine million less-used volumes, would provide a fast and cost-effective retrieval system.

Last week I had the chance to be on a speaker panel at the Delivering Effective Innovation event hosted by Osney Media.
Unlike the standard conference format, Osney set theirs up on a ‘round-table‘ basis, so in between each presentation the tables ‘convene‘ to discuss some aspect of what they have just heard, and then feed back to the room as a whole, with thoughts, comments or further questions.
Many thanks to Osney, and of course to all the other participants, who could not fairly be called an ‘audience‘!

A £27m book depository is to be built at Osney Mead, following approval of a resolution by Congregation.
Stock which would be permanently located at Osney Mead would be selected from material currently stored in the New Bodleian, at Nuneham Courtenay, in the Radcliffe Camera underground bookstore, in the Radcliffe Science Library and in various other locations.
The proposed new depository at Osney Mead will operate using an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), a proven technology which has been used for storage and distribution in industry for over 40 years and in libraries since 1991.

Irrigation gullies and pottery dating from the Bronze Age have been unearthed as well as coins which are thought to be medieval.
The work at the Osney Mead base in Oxford was undertaken because it is known that there was a Bronze Age settlement in the area.
A Bronze Age sword had previously been found and archaeologist Stephen Hammond said the new finds were significant.
