Ossified posterior longitudinal ligament was seen at C 4/5 level (Fig.
On axial sections, the ossified posterior longitudinal ligament is seen as a ’mushroom’, a ‘hill’, and a ‘square’ or a mixture of these shapes.
And a characteristic sharp radiolucent line separates the ossified posterior longitudinal ligament from the posterior vertebral margin representing the unossified deep component of posterior longitudinal ligament [4].

Gray, Henry. 1918. Anatomy of the Human Body. Page 113
The body and vertebral arch are ossified in the same manner as the corresponding parts in the other vertebræ;, viz., one center for the body, and two for the vertebral arch.
The base of the process is separated from the body by a cartilaginous disk, which gradually becomes ossified at its circumference, but remains cartilaginous in its center until advanced age.
In this cartilage, rudiments of the lower epiphysial lamella of the atlas and the upper epiphysial lamella of the axis may sometimes be found.

It was a case of fresh, consistent dogmatism against ossified, utilitarian dogma.
Ossify is from Latin os, oss-, "bone" + -fy, from Latin -ficare, akin to facere, "to make."

An additional thicker ossified piece (3 X 3 X 5 mm), removed from the left dorsal surface of the spinal cord, left a deep groove on the surface of the cord.
The second theory correlates formation of bone with the presence of arachnoidal granulations that have a propensity to calcify and ossify over time.[8,16,17,24] Histological evidence of such arachnoidal cell clusters was obtained during detailed studies of the spinal meninges earlier this century.
The situation may be further complicated by presence of tight adhesions between the ossification and the spinal cord dura mater or even ingrowing of the bone into the spinal cord.[24,26,27,52,60] In these cases, decompressive surgery of the cord with or without syrinx drainage may be considered a safer choice.

Absence of an ossified calcaneum has been suggested as a synapomorphy of Diplodocidae and used to construct sauropod phylogenetic hypotheses.
Ossified calcanea may have helped to stabilize the pes during locomotion and assisted in the proper alignment and insertion of lateral plantar musculature.
The unusual morphology and unreliable preservation of the sauropod calcaneum suggest that its presence or absence should not be used as a character state, nor should the absence of the calcaneum be used as a synapomorphy of Diplodocidae.

As can be seen in Pterorhynchus, the leading edge of the ossified ridge on the nasals directly correlates to the leading edge of the much larger unossified headcrest.
This demonstrates that the ossified headcrests on pterodactyls must also be indications of far larger headcrests than previously supposed.
The overall size of the entire headcrest is so disproportionately larger than the ossified basal part that this suggests a substantial development of an unossified crest may be present even before any physical indications appear in the actual bone.

In pre-mature or dysmature foals the carpal and/or tarsal bones may not be ossified at birth - the lack of ossification may be partial or complete and is bilaterally symmetrical.
Lack of ossification of the carpal bones at birth is suspected as the cause of this foals' angular limb deformity.
Although the bones are fully ossified now, compression of the cartilage templates prior to ossification has resulted in abnormal shape of the carpal bones.

Dear Dr. Wagner, I've the Taquet's and Paul's Ouranosaurus reconstruction but there're no ossified tendons in the dorsals, sacrals or caudals, for me this is the first time that I've see a Ouranosaurus reconstruction with ossified tendons as that mention by HP Aspidel in the Bailey web-page.
But in the case of the skeleton of Ouranosaurus nigeriensis described here, the pieces were slightly disarticulated and the excavation only yielded several fragments of ossified tendons.
The lateral surfaces of the neural spines, smooth up to the 10th dorsal vertebra become afterwards rugose, marked by raised osseous ridges which are the remains of the ossified tendons or their attachments".

I do share, though, Levinson’s frustration at the incredibly ossified nature of our constitutional system, supported by mindless reverence for founding fathers who understood their imperfections far better than we do, and who mostly never imagined the system they designed lasting for so long without major changes.
We have an ossified Constitution that is now nearly impossible to substantially modify by the Amendment process if the slightest political opposition exists anywheres.

There is no periosteal reaction, but the lesion may lift the periosteum and create "columns" or "buttresses" of mature periosteum at each end of the mass that appear to project out from the axis of the bone.

Shell-breeding represents a highly successful evolutionary strategy, and although the behavior arose multiple times during the radiation of the lamprologines [5], most shell-breeding species are members of the "ossified group", a monophyletic group of 28 species characterized by a sesamoid bone within the labial filament [6].
The "ossified group" includes both the smallest (3.5 cm) and the largest lamprologine (>30 cm); in shell-breeding species, either both sexes are sufficiently small to fit in gastropod-shells, or the sexes display extreme size dimorphism with dwarf females and males too large to enter the shells [7].
In the tropheine genus Petrochromis, the incongruence was explained by parallel evolution of distinct eco-morphotypes [26], whereas disparate mitochondrial placements of color morphs and species in the tropheine genus Tropheus [28,29] and in the tribe Eretmodini [20] were attributed to introgressive hybridization after secondary admixis.

Ossification - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ossification is the process of bone formation, in which connective tissues, such as cartilage are turned to bone or bone-like tissue.
The ossified tissue is invaginated with blood vessels.
Bone was thus an exaptation from the ossified cartilage.

Like many other so-called ossified or "stone" people, he suffered from a rare disease known as FOP (Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva), which literally turns connective tissue to bone and immobilizes the patient.
Symptoms begin between 10 and 20 years of age; in Harry's case, he was 10 years old when his body began to ossify.
FOP first makes itself known through painful fibrous nodules in the neck and shoulders, and removal of these nodules causes larger ones to form.

In older children with a well ossified hip, it is usually obvious if the hip is dislocated since the well developed femur head is easily seen to fit symmetrically within the acetabulum bilaterally.
In younger children where the acetabulum is not fully ossified and the femur head is non-ossified or is just beginning to ossify, the relationship between the femoral head and the acetabulum is not easy to assess radiographically.
In this case, the femoral heads are not ossified so it is not visible on the radiograph.
