Osteospermum is a +/-12 week crop from rooted cuttings.
Temperature of the rooting medium should be 72-75°F. Osteospermum is susceptible to root rot diseases during propagation and cuttings may benefit from a broad-spectrum fungicide drench.
Osteospermum is susceptible to powdery mildew, phytophthora and verticillium and to fungus gnats, thrips and mites.

In Ohio's greenhouse industry, African Daisies or osteospermums are considered to be a new floriculture crop, both as potted flowering plants and bedding plants.
Osteospermum has been grown as an herbaceous annual in mild climates of the United States for some time, but since it is new to this region, key information is needed to produce consistent crops that meet the desires of more northern consumers.
Pasian and Metzger found that vernalization occurred over a wide range of temperatures for two osteospermum cultivars, 'Brightside' and 'Nairobi.' These plants bloomed even without vernalization treatment, although blooms were fewer, and it took a significantly longer period of time for buds to appear.
