This contact was symbolically confirmed by the marriage of Oswald de Andrade, poet, writer, pamphleteer, playwright, critic and theoretician of Brazilian Modernism (not to be confused with the distinct movement of Hispanic Modernism) to the painter Tarsila do Amaral.
The poetry of Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Murilo Mendes, Vinícius de Moraes and Manuel Bandeira, both individually and as a group, was equal to the principal currents of Western Modernism.
If Oswald de Andrade was the inventor of the so-called minute-poem, we might go so far as to say that Leminski has created the instant-poem, mingling Oswaldian concretism with the anarchic-colloquial diction of pop singer Caetano Veloso and the Tropicalism of Torquato Neto.

After its irruption in the ‘20s with Oswald de Andrade’s Manifiesto antropófago and Mario de Andrade’s Revista de Antropofagia, the controversial concept of cannibalism was recovered in the ‘60s, both by neoconcretists, especially Helio Oiticica, and by director Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, who in 1969 created a film based on Mario de Andrade’s novel Macunaíma.

Oswald de Andrade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
José Oswald de Andrade Souza (January 11, 1890–October 22, 1954) was a Brazilian poet and polemicist.
Andrade was one of the founders of Brazilian modernism and a member of the Group of Five, along with Mário de Andrade, Anita Malfatti, Tarsila do Amaral and Menotti del Picchia.
His role in the modernist community was made somewhat awkward, however, by his feud with Mário de Andrade, which lasted from 1929 (after Oswald de Andrade published a pseudonymous essay mocking Mário for effeminacy) until Mário de Andrade's premature death in 1945.

EIAL XII1 - Challenging National Heroes and Myths: Male Homosexuality and Brazilian History
Moacir Werneck de Castro, a member of a group of young bohemians who socialized with Mário de Andrade when he lived in Rio de Janeiro from 1938 to 1941, later recalled that he and his cohorts had no idea that Andrade had led a double life or was a homosexual.
Although Mário de Andrade did not create a sick and pathetic protagonist, he nevertheless left the reader with the impression that it was far better to repress homoerotic feelings that to express them openly.
Like Mário de Andrade, other artists, composers, and writers who frequented bohemian sites in Rio in the 1930s and '40s achieved a relative acceptance within their social milieu while carefully guarding the secrets of their sexual desires from a wider audience.

Starting from the anthropophagic rituals practiced by the Tupinambás in the pre-colonial period, and adding it up to his readings of Montaigne, Nietzsche, Freud and other thinkers, Oswald de Andrade (São Paulo, 1890–1954) created the cultural metaphor of Anthropophagy.

Tropicália, one of the most significant cultural movements to emerge from South America in the last five decades, marked a true revolution in Brazilian music, visual arts, theater, and cinema, while also influencing advertising, fashion, and television.
Inspired by the writings of Oswald de Andrade, one of the founding figures of Brazilian modernism, the movement took its name from an installation created in 1967 by the young Brazilian artist Hélio Oiticica, whose work embraced an aesthetic of informality, interactivity, and cultural hybridity.
Tropicália also became the title of one of the most celebrated albums in Brazilian music history, featuring Caetano Veloso and others.
