Cyrillic has nine to fifteen vowel-letters, which surely could be used to represent English vowels better than the five or six vowel-letters of Latin.
Cyrillic has single letters for /ch/, /sh/, /zh/; none for /th/ or /w/, but then Latin hasn't got em either.

The order given fo the Cyrillic script in ISO 14651 are based on the same principles which are used to order the Latin script.
Although Cyrillic letters are, by convention, considered separate at level 1 of the sort, nevertheless, in order to be consisitent with the ordering of the Latin and Greek scripts in 14651, similar characters are ranked at level 1 as though they had accents at level 3.
There is a lot of literature using the Cyrillic script which would require the Old Church Slavonic ordering, and I felt that it was best (and less contentious) to stick to the layout of the prototypical Cyrillic script for ISO 14651.

To use Cyrillic fonts you need the Passport version, and the fonts themselves have to be the old 8-bit versions (Adobe Cyrillic encoding or Windows codepage 1250, and I don't think the modes are interchangeable across platforms.) The encoding discrepancies end up being a nightmare.
Strangely, Apple doesn't seem as averse to OT as you Adobe folks are to AAT.
And I'd personally prefer OT support inside AAT, cos right now I'm working on a project for a customer, and we just finished the OT features, and I'm "porting" them to Graphite so Windows users can get to them without spending $700 on InDesign.

Yes, Unicode objects "CYRILLIC LETTER OMEGA WITH TITLO" were probably intended to represent exclamatory omegas, but now at least there is no contradiction between name and glyph shape: object is named "omega with titlo", picture also demonstrates a sort of omega with titlo.
Cyrillic part of Unicode is common for all times and lands, thus all representative glyphs have to be adjusted to the same common style.
OMEGAS and OT all must be of the same size and shape; diacritical marks must be wide enough.

Janko suggested to the participants of Unicode mailing list the introduction of new character codes for the Cyrillic letters B G D P T, which would allow Serbian readers to easily use Unicode compliant fonts to properly display and print texts in their language.
These glyph variants have been part of the Adobe Cyrillic font spec for a long time, so I imagine they will also be available in other OT fonts from Adobe supporting Slavic languages in the Cyrillic script.
The former, the 'sloped roman' italic is not, as one contributor suggested, 'traditional' in sans serif types in either Latin or Cyrillic typography; rather, it is the common italic in one particular style of sans serif lettering, the so-called geometric or modernist style.

It was difficult for me to start implementing kerning with classes for OpenType Fonts and especially more difficult because I am working on Cyrillic fonts.
It is known feature of the Times New Roman to have kerning enabled for Cyrillic characters, even though this is OpenType flavored TTF.
This could be done by FL and I have to add only (script cyrl; # Cyrillic) to enable Cyrillic support and so on.

Heck, if I managed to teach myself the Cyrillic alphabet from a picture book without any help when I was 6 years old...
But yes, it was easier for me because the "Standard Croatian language" is similar, almost identical, in a lot of aspects to "Standard Serbian language", and because there was that ancient picture book in Serbian Cyrillic alphabet (and, obviously, in Serbian) at my grandparents’ place.
Googling is tricky even for me because I have to copypaste the characters (I lost the Unicode.txt files I made that contained Cyrillic, Georgian and Armenian alphabets).
