The population in and around Otahuhu is also growing which is increasing the demand for aquatic facilities and intensifying the need for a dedicated swimming pool in Otahuhu.
Located on the ground floor of the old Otahuhu Borough offices and council chambers, the library is unable to increase or update its resources and services because of severe space constraints.
The Otahuhu population is also growing in size and diversity.

The council is seeking feedback from Otahuhu's residents on the sort of activities they want to do, and the type of atmosphere locals want to experience in the new swimming pool and library.

Auckland City Council invited Kerry Lynch (HOD Otahuhu College) and 12 of his students to develop and perform a dramatic work to promote "Auckland Day" to the people of Guangzhou.
Otahuhu College is a Decile 1 Auckland co-educational secondary school with 1,400 students.
The plot features Tamatane, a young man without purpose or motivation in life, who transforms himself into a kotuku (white heron), flies to the heavens and meets the Gods, is empowered by their knowledge, and returns to his family and community to become an inspirational leader.

Last Wednesday night’s 21-18 defeat to St Paul’s College was Otahuhu’s first loss of the season, after both sides had won all their grading and other finals series matches.
Otahuhu’s coaching staff of Moana Va’aelua, Julie Rogers and Peter Thompson, were proud of how their team lifted for the big occasion.

Scientific testing using two different techniques indicates that that the Painted Apple Moth (PAM) trapped at an Otahuhu container facility on 5 May 2005 was a new arrival, and not a remainder of the population in West Auckland that sparked eradication measures in 2002.
Biosecurity New Zealand Eradication Programmes Manager Ian Gear said the latest testing compared the ratios of certain stable isotopes of the Otahuhu moth with previous captures in Auckland, Australia and with moths bred in the two colonies established to produce females as part of the Auckland eradication programme.
“As well as saying the Otahuhu moth is significantly different, the results for hydrogen and carbon isotopes in particular gave us some spectacular indications of the potential of the technique.
