The Hawkesbury sandstone underfoot had given way to shale, which brought a greater variety of vegetation and topography: rock pools for swimming (and Werrong Beach where the NPWS coyly permits "unclad bathing"), gullies of tree ferns, open grassy hills and the shadowy Palm Jungle.
Before strolling down to Otford Station - a short and beautiful walk under large eucalypts lining a quiet side road - we had to partake of a ceremonial end-of-walk treat: apple pie and ice cream from Otford bakery.
As we sat on the grass gorging ourselves, Lizzy and I came to a happy conclusion: blisters and backpacks aside, there's a lot to be said for a coastal walk that ends with apple pie.
The Royal National Park [1] is located in on the southern fringe of Sydney in NewSouthWales, Australia around 35km south from the city centre.
This campground is accessible by walking along the coast track from Bundeena or Otford, or by walking the much shorted walk from the parking lot adjacent to Garawarra Farm.
Travel further south along the highway, and in around half an hour you will be in Wollongong.
Wollongong is a city in the Illawarra region of NewSouthWales, a state of Australia some 70km south of the state capital Sydney.
It is the third largest city in the state behind Sydney and Newcastle and is thinly wedged on a coastal plain between an escarpment and the Pacific Ocean.
Wollongong's grandly titled Illawarra Regional Airport (WOL) is more often referred to as Albion Park Airport, and is located to the south of the city at the intersection of the Princes Highway (F6) and the Illawarra Highway.

His next step was to complete the independence of Mercia by inducing the pope to erect a Mercian archbishopric, so as to free Mercia from the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
This was effected at the Synod of Celchyth (787), at which Offa granted the pope a yearly sum equal to one mancus a day for the relief of the poor and for lights to be kept burning before St. Peter's tomb.

When the line was altered, it became longer, with an easier grade (to benefit freight trains) and less tunnels between Waterfall and Stanwell Park.
