		He had an extraordinary character change throughout the film as he went easily from a trusting friend to a wicked and hateful man. His companions see him as an honest and dependable man but like most friendly and trust-worthy characters, he has another side that is revealed in the final scene.
		Othello is remarkably portrayed as a leader and a man of action rather that words.
		Desdomona’s farther joins her hand with Othello’s in the Venecian court, Othello and Desdomona’s hands join in their wedding bed, and again the joining of hands was used when Othello and Iago clasp their bleeding hands together towards the end of the movie.

		As a film about deception with its chief focus on masters of deception, Welles deceives the audience into believing several lies, which are only lies in as much as we allow our own perceptions to deceive as to the reality of what is shown.
		The self-reflexive nature of the film is almost a learning tool in that it makes obvious to the audience the "tricks" by which films can convince us of their reality, but only in a manner so subtle that it remains an instructional piece on fakery while subconciously faking the audience.
		As the film closes, the final goodbye to Quinlan is given over the piano in a genuine moment of sincerity, and despite the simplistic plot and almost vacuously cartoonish nature of several characters, Quinlan is one with whom I sympathize.

		Othello is probably William Shakespeare’s most disturbing play, and as such, certainly proved ripe fodder for the filmmaking genius of Orson Welles.
		This film alone was made over a period of three years owing to constant interruptions because of funding.
		There is some inconsistency evident in the source material, as the film sometimes goes from grayscale to sepia tones as it progresses from scene to scene, but often in a restoration, the best materials are spliced from different sources.

		For students of film, this is a must-see and worthy of five stars in that category.
