		April 14th, 1755: Governors of the British colonies (Dinwiddle of Virginia; Dobbs, North Carolina; Morris, Pennsylvania; Sharpe, Maryland; Delancy, New York; and Shirley, Massachusetts) got their meeting underway at Alexandria on the Potomac (known in history as the Council at Alexandria).
		The perpetrators simply moved on to participate in the other momentous events of the Seven Years War which then was about to officially unfold; and which culminated in France losing her claims which she had made to vast tracks of land in North America.
		Monckton, on the other hand, due to the French commander Boishébert and his spirited followers, was to have his hands full.

	Historical Depictions of the 1755 Lisbon Earthquake
		With an estimated population of 275,000, Lisbon was, in 1755, one of the largest cities in Europe.
		On the other hand, it caused great damage and casualties to the western coast of Morocco, from Tangier, where the waves reached the walled fortifications of the town, to Agadir, where the waters passed over the walls, killing many.
		This is a highly inaccurate depiction of the event but serves to illustrate how the disaster, which had happened nearly a hundred years before, still lived in the memory of the Europeans.

		This fort saw no action other than as being a portage for those soldiers heading to the forts at Oswego from Albany.
		Known as Fort Carillon during the French and Indian War, this fort was built by the French soldiers during 1755 and 1756 as an additional defense against English encroachment coming up Lake St. Sacrament [Lake George].
		The important battle of 1758 was held here when the French force of about 3,100 men, under the Marquis de Montcalm, held off an English invasion force of nearly 14,000.

		These are the Yuletide Lads, elf-like spirits who live in the mountains until December 12, when - one by one - they descend to the villages to create mischief as Icelandic families prepare for the holiday festivities.
		Iceland is also a treat for grownups in the beginning of December when restaurants around the country lay out their lavish "Christmas Buffets." These smorgasbords become quite extravagant in their content and presentation because of the fierce competition between the restaurants for the holiday business.
		This is one of the world's largest block parties, as Icelanders by the thousands drive to camp-out in the wilderness or celebrate in numerous organized events throughout the country -- sort of like what Generation X'ers do every summer weekend when they head for the Hamptons.
