 A Calendar for Emma
Austen still exploits the differences between psychological and calendar time to pace her book and our response to it, and she paces the events of the book in a closely intertwined way with detailed references that move back and forth in time; she still introduces but one new turn at a time.
I don't find that she did specifically because I trace only the major events of the novel; the little turns such as Knightley walking into a field or conferring with William Larkins I didn't attend to.
The picturesque and appropriate touches of using seasonal, folk, and religious festivals of the year to coincide with and reinforce the events and psychological movements of the novel occur throughout the book.

 Norwalk Symphony Orchestra Concerts
Brahms' Variations on a theme by Joseph Haydn is a piece Wittry chose because "people will recognize the melody" (which includes a bit of Haydn's "Clock" Symphony), and because she thought the orchestra would enjoy playing it as much as the audience would enjoy hearing it.
The concert's second piece, Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9 is not performed as often as some of his other works, and is, according to Witty, something of a surprise for those familiar with the composer's weightier compositions.
Smetana's The Moldau, on the other hand, was included to give the audience a chance to hear music that, says Wittry, "they know and love." Smetana is noted as being the first composer to write music that was specifically Czech in character.
