 Rookie coaches don't win cup
The Ottawa Senators have apparently placed Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach Keith Acton at the top of their coaching wish list.
The Senators are a team that is poised to win the Cup now, but given the track record of rookie head coaches in the NHL, Senators fans will have wait for Acton to be on the job for at least a year before they take the final glorious step.
Since 1967, the last year of the old Original Six, there have been only three rookie head coaches who have won the Stanley Cup and they were all with the Habs (Claude Ruel in 1969, Al MacNeil in 1971 and Jean Perron in 1986).

If the Leaves are employing this, the louder and more consistent the Ottawa boos at the Corel Centre, the greater it serves the Leaves who are able to psychologically convince themselves the fans are pro-Leaves, booing the Senators' play, not theirs.
Leo Cahill, when he coached the Toronto Argonauts, used the same psychology with his players when he brought them to Ottawa to play the Rough Riders who noisily hated the Argos.

Here, a brand new Ministry of Justice headquarters exists side by side with historic Parliament Hill buildings such as the Center Block, which was built in 1859 and then rebuilt in 1916 after a fire burned the original structure to the ground.
Nearby, also on Parliament Hill, is the East Block building, where the Senators and their support staff handle the day-to-day office work.

 NHL tradition takes a beating
While it's true Ottawa was one of the four teams that began the NHL's inaugural season in 1917-18, and Senators teams have won four Stanley Cups, that initial franchise folded after moving to St. Louis for the 1934-35 season.
From the 1942-43 season through to 1966-67, the Original Six comprised the NHL and formed the East Division for three seasons after the league expanded to 12 teams in 1967-68.
It's enough to make hockey traditionalists cringe, but it had to happen eventually -- for the first time since the National Hockey League took exclusive control of the Stanley Cup in the 1926-27 season, none of the so-called Original Six have advanced past the first round of the playoffs.
