Ottawa South is an inner-suburban middle class riding with the highest Arab population in Ontario.
Neighbouring districts include Nepean—Carleton on the south and southwest, Ottawa Centre on the northwest, Ottawa West—Nepean on the west, Ottawa—Orléans on the east and Ottawa—Vanier on the north and northeast.

 Old Ottawa South - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The neighbourhood is relatively small, bounded to the south and east by the Rideau River and to the West by Carleton University.
It is also one of Ottawa's more left-wing neighbourhoods and has been a stronghold for the New Democratic Party and the Green Party of Canada.
Old Ottawa South is not to be confused with the parliamentary constituency of Ottawa South.

Many of Ottawa South's homes, now over 70 years old, have for the most part been well-maintained so that our community is remarkably free from those pockets of urban blight that can stealthily creep into a neighbourhood over the years.
Ottawa South's community centre, the Old Firehall, was constructed in 1921 to the designs of one of this region's best known architects, W.E. Noffke.
The Old Ottawa South Firehall is a local landmark due in part to its elaborate Spanish Colonial Revival styling which features stone and stucco accenting rough red brick, an asymmetrical front elevation which includes an open porch with a stepped & curvilinear gable, and glazed vehicle doors separated by an elaborate cartouche.

Ottawa South could go Conservative if the Conservatives pull ahead of the Liberals in a big way, but it will be Ottawa-Orleans that is the bellwether riding for Conservative fortunes in Ottawa.
Ottawa South is a fairly Liberal riding, and though the CPC was very competitive in the last election, McGuinty had to deal with his big brother's broken promises.
