Hofmann, a poet, critic, translator (from German) and very engaging writer, has collected his book reviews on poets, artists, films, and writers, mainly from the US and Germany.
Michael Hofmann is the author of Approximately Nowhere (Faber, 1999) and After Ovid (FSG, 1996).

The style was refined at two design schools in Switzerland, one in Basel led by Armin Hofmann and Emil Ruder, and the other in Zurich under the leadership of Joseph Muller-Brockmann.
Hofmann’s series for the Basel State Theater and Muller-Brockmann’s for Zurich’s Tonhalle are two of the most famous.
Hofmann’s accentuation of contrasts between various design elements and Muller-Brockmann’s exploration of rhythm and tempo in visual form are high notes in the evolution of the style.

A brief discussion involving Heydrich, Martin Luther (from the Reich foreign ministry), and Otto Hofmann (from the SS Race and Resettlement Office) touched on potential difficulties and possible diplomatic initiatives that could be involved in implementing the plan in occupied and allied countries.
Hofmann was clearly referring to his recollection, even then somewhat dim, of the Wannsee Conference.
Hofmann cynically remarked that one had to cultivate the belief prevailing among the deported German Jews that they would be allowed to return to their homes after the war in order to get them to work harder.

 Otto Wallach - Biography
Otto Wallach was born on March 27, 1847, in Königsberg, Germany, the son of Gerhard Wallach and his wife, née Otillie Thoma.
During his early school years at the humanistic "Gymnasium" at Potsdam, Wallach had a profound liking for history and art - in those days subjects like chemistry were hardly taught at secondary-school level.
In 1867 he went to Göttingen to study chemistry with Wöhler, Fittig and Hübner but soon left for Berlin to study for one semester under A.W. Hofmann and G. Magnus.

 Hofmann Coat of Arms
Considered the Charlemagne of Germany, Otto I (936-73) was only twenty-four years old at the time of his accession, but he was already a king in conduct and facility.
It was through his canny state-craft and iron will that Otto I became the first Holy Roman Emperor and earned the appellation Otto the Great.
At the end of the 15th century, in the glorious period known as the Renaissance, the German states in the Holy Roman Empire lacked strong, unified central governments and local nobles or small political units fragmented political authority.
