The On-Line Guide to Belgian Beer - Beer Styles
Anyway, though there are differences between classic oud bruin and the benchmark red ale - Rodenbach (sometimes referred to as the "Burgundy of Belgium"), they are outweighed by their similarities.
The most recognized Oud Bruin, Liefmans Goudenband, is a spectacular beer thought I believe it has gone down hill in the last year.
The difference between to two is the oud bruin is not blended.

Oud Bruin literally means 'Old Brown', and originates from the historic town of Oudenaarde in Flanders, Belgium.
Monteith's Oud Bruin has been crafted to reflect the sour-and-sweet essence that is typical of this sprightly beer style.
Monteith's Oud Bruin is delectably matched with a true Belgium favourite, Flemish beef and onion stew.

 That Old Brown Magic
The oud or old in the name refers to the type of yeast, ale, which is the old way compared to the use of lager yeast.
Oud bruins brewed today are not as big as their forefathers are.
Oud bruin is a brown ale and it does have added fruit, which makes it a red but the color is not the defining characteristic.

I was paging through Beer Captured last night and saw an Oud Bruin recipe with lactobaccilus and oak chips.
Oud Bruins/Flanders Red Ales are similar to Lambics in that they aren't difficult, just extremely time consuming.
To my taste, the sourness of an Oud Bruin is much more complex than that of lactic acid alone, as for example in a Berliner weisse.

I'd love to hear from anyone with ANY Oud Bruin experience at all because, quite frankly, I don't know what I'm doing and I only have a marginal idea of what I'm even looking for out of this brew.
I went ahead and did a batch from the primary yeast cake and made a nice belgian tripel which actually was ready before the oud bruin.

Oud Bruin is sour like a Flemish Red, but it's a (Old) Brown Ale.
Granted, with the relative dearth of commercially-available examples for many Belgian beer styles these days, it seems silly for each beer to effectively be a style unto itself, but Oud Bruin is simply not a Flemish Red.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Petrus Aged Pale Ale at Epinions.com
Petrus Aged Pale is slightly similar to the Flanders Red style of ale, also known as Oud Bruin.
The commonality between these and the Aged Pale lies in the maturation process, since both are aged in oak barrels that allow a bacterial fermentation that adds a distinctive tart and sour character.
However, the Oud Bruin style is a bit darker as you might expect than the pale.

BJCP Study Group History: Lambics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
Another variation of a Lambic that uses darker malts such as Vienna and Munich is called Oud Bruin (old brown).
The process is similar with the long boil, then pitched with a yeast that has some lactic character and placed in a metal fermenter rather than a barrel at ambient temperature.
Flanders Red is prepared like the Oud Bruin with emphasis on Vienna malts, but instead is fermented like Lambics in massive vertical tuns of uncoated oak where a greater contribution of flavor is derived from tannins, caramels and distinctive sourness.

It seems to me that the goal is precisely the same for each of them; the only question is whether or not the brewer adds fruit to intensify the fruity flavors.
As I remember, it's rather difficult to tell for sure whether or not a given Oud Bruin actually contains fruit or not without looking at the recipe; this tells me that the ingredients are secondary to the result.
