  OUR MAN FLINT
(Cramden: "Flint, the world's in trouble!" Flint: "It usually is but it manages to extricate itself without my help.") A foiled assassination attempt soon has him on the case, however.
Flint even gets his own theme music courtesy of composer Jerry Goldsmith's swanky score, which repeats this theme in just about every conceivable form throughout the picture.
Unlike Bond, the dutiful civil servant who risks life and limb for Her Majesty's government, Flint is a mercenary character who only accepts the mission because the villains try to kill him as a precautionary measure.

THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW-- OUR MAN FLINT
OUR MAN FLINT ($15) is the perfect spy movie spoof, tweaking one’s expectations of the genre in such a gentle way that the comedy doesn’t overtly draw attention to itself.
OUR MAN FLINT stars James Coburn as Derek Flint, a renaissance man of a sort, with an expertise in an astounding array of subject areas, including science, medicine and hand-to-hand combat.

DVD Savant Review: Our Man Flint
Our Man Flint is no classic to be compared with The Mark of Zorro or Goldfinger, but it has a purity of pulp expression that says more about America in 1965 than any other fantasy of the year.
Our Man Flint is able to have its sexism and shun it too, by showing that Galaxy considers women to be just 'pleasure units' with zaftig figures and sexual appetites apparently enhanced through drugs, perhaps the femme equivalent of the little red pre-viagra pills that come in the Exotica cold cream jars.
Our Man Flint is a comedy spoof that seems to have benefitted from the freedom of the haste with which it was made.

Of course, before Flint can rescue the world (and the girls), he has to dine on bouillabaisse in Marseilles, scope out a cosmetics factory in Rome, and manhandle with his adversary Gila in the manner of supercool superspies everywhere…at least, everywhere in the innocent age of tie-dye, psychedelia, and free love.
Our Man Flint was concocted—no surprise here—as an American answer to the James Bond screen phenomenon of the 1960s.
Flint's foe, a Galaxy agent named Hans Gruber (apparently no relation to the Alan Rickman character in Die Hard—this Gruber is identified by Flint as an alumnus of the Hitler Youth Movement, who escaped during the Nuremberg trials) falls into a pay toilet stall, the door slamming shut behind him.

There are the parodies of the gadgets - like Flint's multi-purpose cigarette lighter: "This has 82 uses - 83 if you want to light a cigarette," or the stethoscope built inside his shirt in which the buttons become the earpieces.
